You spend a lot of time in your home entertaining guests, living life, or even vacationing if this is your second home at the Lake. It's important to make sure that you love every moment of your time in your home and feel comfortable. Lake living offers incredible beauty and all of us that live or vacation here enjoy the beauty the lake area has to offer - that's why we provide you with the best interior design at the Lake of the Ozarks. Don't just take our word for it, though, here are five reasons you will be glad you call us to help.

Save Time & Money

It sounds cliche, but you truly will save time and money when you hire an interior designer. When you try to go at it on your own, you may spend more money on paint because the first three colors didn't look right. Or, even though you measured the chair, it still doesn't fit in your space so you have to spend time returning it and picking out another. We have a trained eye for what will make your space glorious, and we can save time by picking the right colors and pieces to make your space incredible.

You Get A Professional Opinion

When you hire a professional interior designer at the Lake of the Ozarks, you get our professional opinion. Not only can we advise you on the color scheme that will work the best with your family and your room, but we can show you what style works with your natural style, which furniture will work the best in your space, and how to tie it all together into a professional look and feel.

Your Mediator

If you are doing a complete redesign of your space, it can be invaluable to have someone who knows exactly what you want and can then communicate it to the rest of the team. In many cases, you'll have electricians, flooring installers, painters, cabinets makers, and appliance companies coming through your home to make it the best it can be - but if you aren't used to communicating with them, it can be a lot of work to keep up.

Who Will You Call?

When redesigning your space, it's only as good as the individuals you use to create it. That means you want the BEST of the BEST when having your living room rewired, your kitchen appliances updated, and your bedroom repainted. If you don't know who to call, you may not find the BEST at the Lake. We have over fifteen key partners of John Elliott Interiors who can do the ‘whole shebang’. From granite custom cabinets, audio-visual, high-end appliances, flooring, window treatments, painting, and faux painting, we know a guy. Whatever your interior needs, we can handle it quick, easy and right for you.

Get the WOW Factor

It's no secret that an interior designer can provide you with something that you can't achieve of your own, no matter how hard you try. Do you know why this is? Because interior designers have connections. We can access the exact piece you need to complete the look of your room that may not even be available in stores. We can find unique fabrics, colors, and shapes to complete your space.

As an interior design store at the Lake of the Ozarks, we have many clients come in with all different types and styles of homes. Our goal is to help create a space that our clients will love, from large luxury homes to cute and quaint vacation condos. Nobody knows better than us that each type has their own set of challenges. The trick is to get creative to make any space work. Since we have many clients who want to update the style of their vacation condo, while still making it a functional and usable space when they come for a visit, we're sharing a few tips to make the most of a small(er) space - whether it's a vacation condo or small lakefront home!

1. Think Vertical
When working with a smaller space, a great way to make the most of the square footage is to keep everything moving in an upward direction. It can be even easier if you have nice vaulted ceilings which tends to be popular among lake homes. Opt for tall bookcases that keep your collection moving towards the ceiling, and if you have decorative shelves or groupings of artwork - keep them moving vertically instead of horizontally.

2. Find Multi-functional Furniture
An excellent way to save space and still have the storage you need, is to utilize multi-functional furniture. There are many pieces of furniture that can create a beautiful style while still improving the usability of your space. Whether you look for bed frames with storage drawers and shelves in it or a hallway cabinet that can store your linens or organize your paperwork, it's important to make sure that your furniture is adding to the functionality of the space you have to work with rather than creating more of a problem.

3. Grow Your Space With Mirrors
Just like magicians use mirrors to create an illusion - create your own illusion with the use of mirrors. Hanging mirrors in small spaces, like a half bathroom, or a small hallway will help make the space feel larger while also making the light even brighter.

4. Hang the Curtains High
See a common theme here? Keep everything moving upwards! A little trick to make your ceilings look high (even if they aren't) is to hang your curtains as close to the ceiling as you can. The extra height will create a taller illusion and make the ceilings look tall.

5. Swap Out for Smaller Furniture
In small spaces, you can make large pieces of furniture work - but that doesn't always mean it's the best use of your space. If you have a small living area, try swapping your large couch or sectional for a smaller settee to increase the floor space while still providing a space to relax and entertain. You'd be surprised by how comfortable and organized a minimalist living space can feel and function!

Your One-Stop-Shop for Beauty and Style!
At John Elliott Interiors, we want to make your space a place that you can come home to - and feel like you're home! From adding accents to finish the design, adding new furniture, or a complete overhaul of your home and starting fresh, we can help! Let our interior design store at the Lake of the Ozarks be your one stop connection for beauty and style.

Whether some of us are ready to admit it or not, the fact is that fall is almost here! Summer's been wonderful, as usual, but we're ready for those changing leaves, delicious fall snacks and beverages, and the arrival of beautiful and richly colored decor that lets you know fall has arrived. This week, we're sharing with you some simple ways to easily incorporate fall decor into your interior design.

Find Easy Ways to Trade Out Seasonal Items
An interior design trick is to decorate your home in a way that makes it easy add seasonally appropriate accents without affecting the flow and feng shui of your home's decor. Do you have a wreath on your front door? Find something that easily matches your style and then add seasonal accents to make it match all season long. You can add orange and red leaves for fall, snow men and pine boughs for winter, pastel flowers for spring, and bright flowers and butterflies for summer. You can take this same concept through your home when you add seasonal accents to the pieces you already own.

Seasonal Scents are a Must
There's nothing quite like the warm scent of cinnamon apple pie to make you feel like you're walking into a cool fall day. Incorporating seasonal scents in your home is a super simple way to bring a seasonal giddiness to your home. While your interior design at the Lake of the Ozarks is partly based on the look of your home, the way your home smells always plays a huge role. When your family comes home to the wonderful fall fragrances, they'll be ready to pull out the flannels and have a bonfire in the backyard.

Organize by Season
Rather than throwing all of your seasonal decor in one tote and storing it away in the attic where you have to dig it out with the changing season, just as you do with your Christmas decor, keep the rest of your seasonal decor together. Don't mix fall and spring, otherwise, you'll be digging for ages trying to remember which box you put your pumpkins in. Better yet, organize everything in clear plastic totes so that you can quickly see which season you've got in which box. Do you want to be really organized? Stack them in order of the next season coming, that way the one you need is always on top!

Your Interior Design Connection
At John Elliott Interiors, we want to help you not just create an attractive house, but a home that you and your family can feel comfortable in. This is achieved not only through the style and color scheme that you choose, but it's also through the atmosphere you create. Don't know where to start? Come visit our home interior store at the Lake of the Ozarks and we'll show you! We have a team of interior designers at the Lake of the Ozarks who would love to point you in the right direction and show you some incredible designs. Fall is almost here ya'll, and we're SO ready!

While there's something serene about a picturesque home setting in a Home's and Garden magazine, you're probably not likely to go out and buy the exact same furniture setting. It's gorgeous, sure. But it just wouldn't feel like YOUR home. This week we're focusing on incorporating your style and character into your home's decor to showcase your personality and taste. Check out these 5 conversational pieces that'll let your individuality shine in the best way possible!

Chic Vintage Style Chaise Lounge

Some of the best family memories are made when you’re relaxing at home with your loved ones. Whether you're spending time with your immediate or extended family, it’s important to have a comfortable gathering area where you can all spend time together. At John Elliott Interiors, you don’t have to skimp out on style when creating a comfortable space. Here are some features to include in your home so that you can focus on making memories with those you love.

Living Room
The living room should serve as a place that people can relax. Being physically relaxed can allow room for meaningful conversations to take place. For the ultimate cozy room, incorporate fabrics like faux fur or velvet. You can do this by placing pillows in these textures around the room or you could purchase a velvet chair or couch to serve as the focal point. In addition to these comfy fabrics, feature natural materials by including a wooden coffee table and potted plants or fresh flowers.

Having enough seating for everyone is a very important element to consider when designing a living room. To ensure that you do, consider adding a sectional to make the most out of your space and/or an ottoman. Ottomans are great because with a cute tray on top, they can serve as a makeshift table for drinks and snacks or if you remove the tray, it can function as another seat for guests. To finish off the space, feature framed photos of your favorite family memories around the room and place warm throw blankets over the arms of the furniture.

Kitchen and Dining Room
Where there’s family, there’s normally food. Not only do some great memories come out of eating meals together as a family, but it’s also been proven that family mealtimes have a variety of positive benefits. According to the Family Dinner Project, meals eaten together regularly can greatly help children by improving academic performance, increasing self-esteem, and lowering future risks of obesity, eating disorder development, depression and more.

To make eating meals together easier, invest in a kitchen or dining room table that not only has enough seats for your immediate family but if possible, also has a few extra seats for guests to join you. Another great way to add extra seating in the kitchen is to have a built-in bar added to your counters and then add some beautiful barstools to this. Family members can sit here and keep you company while cooking and it also serves as a great overflow area when family members and friends come over to eat.

Outdoor Entertainment Spaces
When the weather is nice, outdoor entertainment spots like a patio or fire pit area can serve as a great place for people to spend time together. For long-lasting furniture, make sure to get pieces that are specifically made for outdoor use and that are waterproof. Another great piece of furniture to consider including in your entertainment space is an outdoor table. Eating outside is a fun way to change up family time and is especially great if you’re barbecuing. Spending family time outside allows kids to run around and play in the backyard while the adults relax. Add some outdoor string lights to the area to pull the look together and to create a calming atmosphere.

When you're not quite ready to start from scratch for a completely new interior design at the Lake of the Ozarks, you can still achieve a fresh new look for the rooms in your home. This can be done by simply changing out or moving around the items you already have or adding just one new spectacular piece from John Elliott Interiors. Here are a few easy tips for giving any room a quick makeover.

Paint
Adding new color to a space can make it feel like a brand new room. You can go all out and paint every single wall in the room or just paint an accent wall to add a bit of flair. Adding color to the backs of open shelves is also a wonderful way to change things up.

Change the Layout
An excellent way to quickly freshen up the look of any room is to rearrange the furniture. Switching the positions of two chairs or simply moving the couch away from the wall is a small change but it can make a big difference to both the look and flow of the space. You can even switch out furniture between rooms for a bigger change.

Add One New Item
You don't have to replace every single piece of furniture in a room to create a new look. Adding just one brand new piece can bring new life to the items you already own. We carry a fantastic selection of home accents, wall art, sculptures, and more at our home interiors stores at the Lake of the Ozarks if you only want to add something small. If you want to make a bigger change, consider a new sofa, a side chair, or maybe even a new area rug.

Create a Focal Point
Every room should have one piece of furniture or a design element, such as a fireplace or large picture window, that serves as a focal point. It brings your focus to a certain point and draws you into the room. This is also a wonderful starting point for designing the rest of the space. There is often an opportunity for more than one choice for a room's focal point. When you're ready for a change, arrange items in the room so that focus is drawn to a new area and away from the former focal point.

Switch Out Seasonal Decor
Each season has something about it that sets it apart and you can showcase that through the home accents you display in each room. In the spring, put away those heavy winter throws and bring out lighter, airier decor. Every new season and each holiday is an excellent excuse to change things up and give a room an entirely new look.

Display a Prized Collection
Your favorite things can be used in a clever way to decorate a room. It's best to group a lot of pieces of a collection together in one area or two rather than dispersing them individually throughout the space. If your collection is large, you don't need to show it all off at once but instead choose a few pieces to highlight and switch them out when you feel like it. Your collection of prized possessions is not only terrific for decorating but those items also serve as fun conversation pieces. They also give you something specific to keep an eye out for when you browse the showroom of our Lake of the Ozarks luxury furniture store.

A room can feel like a brand new space without changing every single thing about that room. The talented professionals at John Elliott Interiors can help you find that one special item to bring new life to a space and fit in perfectly with your existing decor. Of course, when you are ready for a complete redesign, our Lake of the Ozarks interiors designers are up for that challenge as well! Bring us your ideas and we will help you turn them into a beautiful reality.

If you're not careful, it's easy to use a coffee table as a catch-all for everything that comes into a room. That's a shame for a couple of reasons. Firstly, all of that clutter hides the gorgeous coffee table that you found at our Lake of the Ozarks luxury furniture store!

Also, all of that stuff is displeasing to the eye and ruins the overall look and feel of your interior design. You'll find lots of beautiful home decor items at John Elliott Interiors that will look much better on top of your coffee table. When you take the time to stage a small "scene" there with decorative accessories, this can help to discourage people from leaving random items laying on top of it.

Accessories for a coffee table can be purely decorative, possibly showing off a part of a collection or providing an interesting conversation piece. You can also find lovely accessories that serve some type of function in the room as well. Here are a few ideas of items you may want to incorporate.

Trays or Bowls
A wonderful way to contain a portion of your coffee table display is to use trays or bowls to hold the accessories. They can help to give your room a less cluttered look because items are collected within it. This also allows items to quickly and easily be removed from the table if you need more open space, and the tray can come in handy if you are serving refreshments to guests.
