Choosing furniture can be quite the endeavor... There are SO many options! John Elliott Interiors has incredible pieces that you'll absolutely love adding to your beautiful home interior design. Our high end home interior store in Lake Ozark is the perfect place to visit for inspiration and a relaxing experience while you shop to complete the home of your dreams. If you're looking to renovate one of your rooms or need to furnish your whole home, make sure to first ask yourself these questions and consider a few important details.

Size

This is probably one of the most important things to consider when deciding on the furniture you're bringing into your home. If you fall in love with a couch and bring it home without measuring it, it could end up not even fitting in your room. Or, it could look so small in the space that it feels awkward. Before you go shopping for furniture pieces, measure out the space where you will want to place it and bring those measurements with you.

Function

The next thing you should consider is the function of the furniture that you are buying. Will the couch be more of a beautiful statement piece to place in an office and only use on occasion? Or will it be where you snuggle up comfortably and kick out the recliner while watching TV? How many people will you be entertaining on a regular basis? There are a lot of things to consider when you're deciding how to use your furniture. Make sure you think it through before spontaneously buying something that doesn't work for your home.

Color

The color of your furniture sets a real tone for your whole interior design. These pieces are some of the largest design elements in your home aside from flooring and wall color. Some people choose to go with neutral furniture and make their statement with wall art, throw pillows, and other smaller elements. Others choose bright pieces of furniture for a real wow factor. It's totally up to you what direction you want to go in!

Fabric

Another important element to consider is the type of fabric the furniture will be made of. Leather has a totally different vibe than soft fabric. The amount of cleaning and maintenance you'll be able to do can also decide what kind of fabric to use. If you have pets, you may want to think about the durability of the fabric too.

Guest Room

This is a fairly common use for a spare room, but your design doesn't have to feel common. If you need a space to house your guests when they come knocking, think of a hotel or bed and breakfast as you put the space together. A queen-sized bed is the perfect size to make your guests feel comfortable, whether you have one friend crashing at your house for the night or in-laws visiting for the weekend. Choose linens that are easy to clean and that give the room a bright and welcoming feel. White may seem like a color that is hard to keep clean, but it could be perfect for your guest room. Unlike your own room, it won't wear out quickly from daily use and can be bleached of any spills, makeup, etc. Include thoughtful touches like a nightstand on either side with matching lamps for reading. Your guests may also appreciate having a large mirror somewhere in the room so they can feel confident in their appearance before coming into the main part of the house.

Home Office

Using the spare room as a home office is another popular choice. If you work from home, it is incredibly helpful to have a designated space set aside for work. This can help you keep your work separate from your daily life. If you work from a laptop in the living room, your days can start to feel monotonous. You may have a hard time shutting off your "work self" at the end of the day. Instead, create a room that is designed to help you think, focus, and channel your most creative and productive self. Invest in a solid desk and a comfortable, supportive chair that allows you to sit in proper posture without straining. This can not only help you focus and work more efficiently, but it can also help prevent backaches and other pain associated with slouching over a computer for hours. Hobby Room

Designing a hobby room may be one of the most fun and creative ways to use the spare bedroom. Think about what you like to do in your spare time... Do you love nothing more than to curl up with a bowl of popcorn and watch movies? Make a home movie theater with a large flat-screen TV or projector screen on one wall and comfortable furniture arranged throughout the room. Are you a crafting fiend with dreams full of projects? Create a space that promotes creativity with well-organized tools and a large, central workspace where your projects can come to life. Do you play and instrument and love listening to or composing music? Creatively decorate to allow the best acoustic sound in the room, set up music stand and amps, choose a chair the supports your playing and also looks great in the space. It can be like your own little recording studio! Whatever your passion, you can turn the spare room into the ideal place to hang out.

Comfortable Seating

While this may seem like an obvious point, it can be difficult to design a space that meets all the needs of your group while taking full advantage of your property. If you have a lakefront home, it's a good idea to make sure your lounge furniture is facing the water for the best views. If the furniture is facing away from the Lake, you may find yourself and your guests frequently turning around their chairs to get a look at the beautiful sunset and activity on the water.

When planning your seating arrangements, think about how you will use the space ahead of time. Will it just be you and a few family members? Then it could be useful to have several areas set up to spend your time. One area can be set up for dining under the shade, while another can feature lounge furniture for spending lazy afternoons together. If you expect large groups of guests to regularly visit your lake house, it may be better to have one large area designed to host your whole group. John Elliott Interiors can help you design the perfect outdoor space for everyone in your crew to enjoy.

Outdoor Kitchen

These are becoming more popular in outdoor design. Rather than marooning one person inside to prepare dinner while everyone else enjoys the outdoors, you can all spend your time together around an outdoor kitchen. There are several different options ranging from small kitchenettes to full-sized kitchens on the patio. You can even have a kitchen added to your dock!

Gather around the Fire

Is there anything better than gathering around a bonfire at the end of a long day on the water? Incorporate a fire pit into your landscape or deck design to create the perfect place for you and your guests to gather and spend time making memories. There are several different options you can choose from to create a design that fits your personal style and exterior design. We can help you choose the perfect place in your design to add a fire pit that you will love.

Designing the perfect room for your little one is exciting, but it can also present unique design challenges. John Elliott Interiors is the best interior design company at the Lake of the Ozarks and we love helping you with every design aspect of your home. When planning a nursery, it's important to keep a few concepts in mind as you come up with ideas. Read on to learn more!

Safety Concerns

One of the most important aspects of a nursery's design is the security of the room.

Temperature & Airflow

Make sure the room you choose has adequate ventilation as well as efficient heating and cooling capabilities. Babies can have a difficult time regulating their temperature, so it is important to keep their space at a consistent and comfortable temperature. It has been suggested that having a ceiling fan directly over a baby's crib correlates with a lower risk of SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome) due to the increased airflow directed toward them.

Fire Safety

It is important to have a fire safety plan in place in case of a fire. Be sure the smoke detector in your baby's room is working properly and always has well-charged batteries installed in it. If the nursery is not on the ground floor, make sure to have a secure roll-out ladder or some other method of escape from the room in case a fire blocks you and Baby into the nursery.

Choking and Fall Hazards

At first, your little one will be completely dependent on you to move about, but soon they will start crawling, rolling over, and grabbing for everything within reach. Help keep them safe by limiting the number of small items in the room that could fit into their mouths. It's also a good idea to not hang heavy art or decor above the crib. You never know what might shake them just enough to come loose from the wall and fall into the crib, causing injury.

Keep it Simple

Simplicity is your friend when designing a nursery. If the room is crowded with too many decorations, then the room could quickly collect dust that will be hard to keep up with while also caring for a newborn. It could also be overstimulating for your baby to be surrounded by a lot of clutter or several bright colors when you're trying to get them to nap or go to sleep for the night. Choose a neutral, soft palette for the walls that can help soothe your little one. A gender-neutral palette can also serve you well for baby number two. Simply change out the decor to go with a new theme for your baby's new sibling.

Plan Ahead

It can be hard to contain your excitement once you know your family will be growing very soon. You may want to run out and start buying every cute decoration and charming piece of furniture that you set your eyes on. Instead, take a moment to plan with your significant other how you want the room to look. Choose the overall theme and color palette before heading to the store. That way you won't end up with several competing color schemes or vastly different wood stains.

What Needs to Change?

Why have you decided to redesign your home? The motivation behind your redesign is a great place to get started on finding new inspiration. You know you hate the couch in your living room, but why? Is the material hard to clean and stuffy? Is the color drab and drawing the room down? Is the shape out of style? Finding the places in your home that are driving the new design is important so you know which fresh new direction your instincts are taking you.

Valentine's Day is a huge tradition in the United States, celebrating couples and their love. But what about the love between close female friends? That is what Galentine's Day - February 13th - is all about. Inspired by the TV show Parks and Recreation and the character Leslie Knope, several businesses have begun instituting their own version of Galentine's Day. John Elliott Interiors is the best interior design company at the Lake of the Ozarks, and we have great tips on how to host your very own Galentine's Day this year. Read on to learn more!

Catch Up

As Leslie Knope would say, "Any time girlfriends get together, they embody the spirit of Galentine's Day." No matter what you do together, spending quality time together is important to friendships. Spend time catching up with one another or learning new things you never knew before. There are a lot of great games available that help prompt fun questions that help people reconnect and feel closer to one another. Choose a favorite movie classic you all used to watch with one another or the cheesiest possible chick flick to poke fun at... Just enjoy spending time together without the pressure of daily stress.

Host a Brunch

Breakfast food is some of the greatest comfort food, and it is quite easy to prepare. Put together a few easy favorites like scrambled eggs, bacon, and an indulgent pastry. Display them on your table with beautiful dishes that make it feel like an even more special occasion. No brunch is complete without a delicious mimosa or bloody mary bar. Set up a table with champagne, a variety of juices, and fruit pieces for a fun mimosa bar. Or build-your-own bloody mary's with vodka, tomato juice, bacon, celery salt, and any other favorite mix-ins you love. Mix it up by using a V8 juice instead of tomato juice for a richer flavor!

Wine Tasting

You could go out and pay for a wine tasting event. Or, ask your ladies to each bring a bottle of their favorite wine and enjoy each other's selections over good conversation and charcuterie. If wine isn't your thing, you could also try mixing new drinks you've never tried before to experiment and find new favorites.

Enjoy a Beautiful Home

Whatever you decide to do together, have fun spending time together and remembering how much you love your crew of strong women. If your home isn't where you want it to be to host your friends, don't worry! John Elliott Interiors has the design expertise, quality furniture, and gorgeous art to make any room into the space of your dreams. Call today to get started on your home's new beautiful interior design.
