Feeling Cramped in Your Kitchen? Try THIS To Make It Feel Larger!

9/10/2021

Who out there loves to cook? Ok, now who out there loves to cook BUT not in their kitchen because it feels too small and cramped? If this sounds like you, don't worry, there are many people out there who can relate. Also, did you know there are a few designs trick you can implement to make your kitchen actually feel larger? Our design company at the Lake of the Ozarks is here to give you a few design tips for your kitchen, in this week's blog.

5 Tips For Making Your Kitchen Feel Larger

1. Be strategic about the colors you choose in your kitchen.

Yes, it's true. Colors can affect the way you feel in a room. Darker colors can make a room feel smaller and lighter colors can make a room feel larger! Brighten up your kitchen and give it a sense of space by painting the walls a lighter color, such as white, lighter tans, or lighter grays. This can be a great way to make your kitchen feel larger WITHOUT "breaking the bank."

2. Don't underestimate the power of see-through items.

Try open shelves or cabinets and a floating island in your kitchen. "See-through" items like these can give your kitchen a larger and more open-like feel.

3. Try installing accent lighting around your cabinets.

Again, darker colors mean a cramped feeling. This includes shadows. To off-set that feeling try some accent lighting around your cabinets, where shadows can be most common.

4. Single sinks take up less space compared to double sinks!

Opt for a farmhouse sink over a double sink. You can save on counter space! Also, you can add some style to your kitchen by choosing a farmhouse sink. These are typically white, as we mentioned earlier, the lighter the colors, the better!

5. The more natural light, the better!

Light gives you a sense of space. So, try adding a window in your kitchen, if you don't already have a fairly large one in there. If you do already have a window in your kitchen, then draw more attention to the natural light by getting rid of the heavy curtains and bringing in some lighter curtains, such as sheer curtains.
