Our Team's Beautiful Spring Design Tips

3/03/2020

Spring is a beautiful time of year. It's a time when everything can feel new, bright, and clean again. At John Elliott Interiors, we love taking inspiration from the new season to give even more life to our designs. We are the best interior design company at the Lake of the Ozarks because we are experienced, but also because we consistently look for new inspiration and upcoming trends. Read on to learn more about how to update your interior decor to match the spring season.

Out with the Old

As the snow melts and everything grey turns to green, get inspired to remove anything that brings your design down. Do a true spring cleaning throughout the house. Get rid of excess clutter, unused items, and anything else that is taking up space without bringing you happiness or purpose.

This is also a great time to put away decorations that have been left up from the holidays and winter season. Pine cones, fur throw rugs, plaid ribbons, frosted decor, thick wool blankets... Box these items up and store them away to be enjoyed next season.

In with the New!

Replace the heavier fabrics in your decor with lighter materials, textures, and colors. Linen, cotton, and semi-sheer fabrics are the perfect way to brighten up a space and make it feel more airy and spring-like. You can change the look of an entire room with a simple swap of the curtains. Use luxurious, heavier material in the winter, and then switch to a breezier, lighter material in the spring.

Pillows are another great way to update the look of a room. Your winter pillows may have thick fabric, a heavy corded texture, or deep wintery colors like evergreen, red, or black. Switch these out for lighter pillows that feature bright natural colors like soft blues, light greens, and variations of white. If the rest of your decor is fairly neutral, feel free to go for a bold look with your pillows and opt for a bright floral pattern.

Go Floral

Florals offer a very traditional design concept for spring. Even though floral patterns have been used for centuries, they never seem to be outdated. While past florals were made with tiny flowers printed in a busy pattern, modern florals are printed with large blooms that take up more space on the design for a cleaner, bolder look.

Go beyond patterns and prints and bring real flowers into the design of your home. Fresh bouquets of flowers can bring so much life into a design. Fill a vase for the kitchen island or the coffee table display to add a pop of color and vibrancy. You can also use faux flowers in your design for a long-lasting fresh look that will outlast natural flowers. Using a mixture can get you the best of both worlds - bright, unfaded colors from the faux flowers and fresh, beautiful fragrance from the real flowers.

Citrus Inspiration

If florals are not your thing, then citrus could be the perfect springtime inspiration for you. Use fresh limes, lemons, oranges, and grapefruit as inspiration for your color palette. The corresponding bright green, yellow, orange, and deep pink are ideal colors to use in your spring decor. Use these vibrant colors to brighten up your space. Yellow and orange make a great pair to be used on fabrics for your curtains or throw pillows. Green is a great natural color that can help ground your design. Decorate with greenery - real or faux - in areas that could use more color and life.
