John Elliott originally came to the Lake of the Ozarks in the summer of 1970 for the first time, not as a designer, but as a keyboard player! He played on the LARRY DON and played 100 sold-out cruises in a row. He regularly visited the Lake after this to spend time with his brother, Bruce Elliott, and sister-in-law, Judy. He was bitten by the lake bug and bought a few condos and boats over time until he permanently relocated to the area in 2005.

Start in Interior Design

John has undergraduate and graduate degrees in design and actually taught design at three different institutions of higher education: Penn Valley Community College, Virginia State University, and Stephens College. His career venture into marketing and billboard design before he found his passion and started John Elliott Interiors. He credits his mother with the idea, as she always told him that he should have a career in interior design many times over his life. While she didn't get to see this dream realized, she was absolutely right about John's talent and passion for interior design.

Business Clientelle

Elliott's favorite part about owning John Elliott Interiors is that he gets to meet many people from all different areas and walks of life. City clients from Saint Louis, Kansas City, Chicago, and more looking to design their second homes at the Lake for a beautiful escape. Small town individuals and farmers from Central Missouri looking for a chic and comfortable design for their forever homes. He loves hearing the unique stories every client has to tell. 

Favorite Room to Decorate

He says that his favorite room to design in a home is "the next one I'm creating!" He can't pick a favorite because he loves incorporating pleasing and elegant selections in new combinations in every space. He also loves including art, plants, and lighting in many of the rooms he designs to take the space to the next level and create that signature "wow" reaction.

Personal Hobbies

There are several activities John loves participating in outside of work. Some if his passions other than interior design are golf, boating, swimming, and traveling. He has enjoyed visiting Fort Myers, Naples, Marco Island, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, and Budapest. He looks forward to one day traveling to New Zealand as well! At the Lake, he loves relaxing with his wife Connie at home while enjoying a good cocktail and music.
