3 Home Decor Items That Could Bring Good Luck Into Your Home

3/15/2019

With St. Patrick's Day coming this weekend, the "luck o' the Irish" is on many people's minds. Even if you don't believe in luck, adding a few "lucky" items to your Lake of the Ozarks interior design will make for interesting conversation pieces. John Elliott Interiors has three items for you today that are said to be lucky plus the explanations of why that is.

Bamboo
Bamboo is thought to be one of the most widely recognized good luck charms for decorating, especially in a Feng Shi aligned home. (Feng Shui is based on creating positive space in a home or office with proper furniture placement.) Lucky bamboo is supposedly filled with peaceful and wise energy but you should have all 5 natural elements represented for best results.

  • Wood - the bamboo stalks
  • Earth - the rocks or pebbles inside the container
  • Water - where the bamboo grows
  • Fire - a red ribbon tied around the container of stalks
  • Metal - Glass containers are considered to be of the metal element but if using something else, a coin can be placed in the bottom of the container.
The number of bamboo stalks displayed brings about different aspects too.
  • 1 stalk - simplicity, the meaning of life
  • 2 stalks - love
  • 3 stalks - happiness
  • 4 stalks - negative energy, so best to avoid
  • 5 stalks - creativity, academic achievement
  • 7 stalks - health
  • 8 stalks - wealth
  • 9 stalks - good fortune and overall luck

Elephants
The elephant has been a symbol of strength, power, stability, and wisdom for a very long time and this beautiful animal is also said to bring good luck. Many Feng Shui practitioners believe that the elephant's trunk should be pointing upward so that it can shower good fortune on all who walk past. A few people believe that a trunk pointing down can also be lucky because it means the elephant lets good fortune flow freely and naturally onto everyone's path.

Elephants at your entrance, either in statue form or as a piece of wall art, are said to protect the home, making sure only good fortune and blessings pass through. Facing the entrance, the elephants are said to guard the home, while facing away from the entrance allows them to usher blessings inside.

Wall Clocks
These make a beautiful decoration on your wall and serve the practical purpose of telling time. Wall clocks can also result in positive energy in the home if you follow a few Feng Shui tips on how to display them.

Never hang a clock on the south walls of a house. If the clock is metal, keep it off of the east walls too. A clock should not be the first thing that a person sees upon entering your home. It's a good idea to keep large clocks out of sight in bedrooms too. That's a space meant for relaxation, not the constant reminder of what time it is and the tasks that still need to be done before the end of the day.

All of the items mentioned above would make wonderful housewarming gifts for a friend and they would look equally as lovely displayed in your own home or office. Follow these tips from our home interiors store at the Lake of the Ozarks and you just may have a bit of extra good fortune headed your way. Even if you're not superstitious, your house will still look all the more beautiful when you add these lovely home decor items.
