How to Design with the Pantone Color of the Year for 2020!

12/27/2019

Every year, Pantone declares a "color of the year" for design and decor inspiration. For 2020, the color has been officially declared as Classic Blue, or more technically 19-4052. Pantone describes this color as "Instilling calm, confidence, and connection, this enduring blue hue highlights our desire for a dependable and stable foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era." As the best interior design company at the Lake of the Ozarks, John Elliott Interiors has advice and tips on how to use the new color of the year in your home decor. Read on to learn more!

Whole-Home Inspiration

Classic Blue is one of those colors that can be used liberally without feeling like too much. Maybe it is how calming the color feels, or how easy it is to pair with other shades of blue and neutrals, but our team is thrilled that Classic Blue is the official color of the year for 2020.

Feel free to go all out with this color as a new, fresh theme for your home. Use Classic Blue as the anchoring color on your walls, and pair it with lighter shades in the decor and darker shades in the furniture for a cohesive, relaxing feel. We love how easy this makes it to also combine textures and patterns for a more interesting design.

Accent Pieces

Use Classic Blue more conservatively to convey a fresh design that has just the right amount of uniqueness to it. Start with a soft, neutral palette like light cream and wood tones and accentuate the focal points in the room with the bright bold color of Classic Blue. We love this example of a rich blue comforter with quilted pillows and an anchoring, blue bench.

Modernize Your Kitchen

Perhaps the biggest project out of the three we mention here, changing the look of your kitchen can make the whole house feel like new! Use a matte version of Classic Blue and pair it with gold or bronze hardware to warm up the look just enough to balance the design. With this new, modern paint you won't ever want to leave your kitchen!
